Ten people in Bristol for the same week is five hotel twins on three floors, five bookings, five breakfasts and a corridor. Nobody cooks, the van is in a car park across the road, and the invoice arrives in five pieces.
A house that sleeps ten is one booking. That's the pitch, and it's also the whole list of reasons people book these.
Who books a whole house
A work crew on a job for a month wants a bed each, a kitchen that can feed six and somewhere to park the van. A family for a wedding or a big birthday wants three generations under one roof with the kids where the grandparents can see them. A team here for a match or a weekend on the Harbourside wants to walk in together and leave together.
The same houses do all three, because what they all need is the same thing: enough beds, enough bathrooms and one front door.
The houses
Greenbank, east Bristol. A six bedroom house on Belle Vue Road that sleeps eleven in a mix of doubles and singles, with an en suite, a full bathroom and a separate WC. Free street parking nearby, shops and takeaways on the doorstep, and the centre a short drive.
Church Road, east Bristol. Two whole floor apartments in one building near St George Park: a six bedroom that sleeps eleven and a five bedroom that sleeps nine, each with two and a half bathrooms and a full kitchen. Free on street parking. Take one floor for ten, or both for twenty in the same building. Church Road's cafés and bakeries are at the door and Troopers Hill is up the road.
Timber Dene, Stapleton. A six bedroom house with eight single beds: four single rooms and two twins, so a crew of eight sleeps one to a bed and nobody shares a double with a colleague. Private parking on the property. Snuff Mills and the Frome Valley river walks are at the end of the road.
Sandy Park Road, Brislington. A five bedroom house that sleeps ten with two bathrooms, on a quiet residential road with free street parking, south of the river for Temple Meads.
Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset. A six bedroom, six bathroom house on College Street that sleeps twelve, a five minute walk from the beach and the pier. It's the house for a Hinkley Point C crew in the week and a family at the weekend.
Newport. Over the bridge, a five bedroom apartment on Ruperra Street with zip and link beds that make up as ten singles or a mix of kings and singles, with free street parking, and a four bedroom on Walsall Street that sleeps eleven. Both suit a crew placed on the docks or at the hospitals.
What the booking gets
The whole house, nobody else in it. A bed each, and the listing says which beds, so you know before you book whether it's doubles, singles or zip and link. Parking stated per house: private, free on the street, or public nearby. Fast wifi, a full kitchen, a washing machine, and a clean and fresh linen part way through a longer stay. One contact from enquiry to checkout, and one invoice, which is the line a site manager cares about most.
What we ask before we confirm
What the stay is for. Every house has a no parties rule in its house rules, and we hold to it. A crew, a family, a team here for a match: yes. A weekend that's really a party: the house rules already say no, so we'd rather tell you before you book than after. Everyone staying is on the booking, there's a security deposit on every house, and pets are by agreement.
Rates and booking
A house is priced as a house: one rate for the whole stay, quoted once we know the dates and the headcount. Weekly and monthly rates are lower than nightly, and a crew on a long job gets the monthly rate for the whole stay on one invoice.
Send the dates, the headcount, what the stay is for and whether you need van parking. We reply the same working day with the houses that fit, and you get one confirmation with the address, the parking and the self check in.
What we can't do: we don't put two groups in one house, and we don't take a booking above the listing's sleeping count, however the group proposes to split the rooms.
