On a Principality Stadium weekend, the last place you want NHS accommodation in Cardiff to be is the middle of town. Ours is down by the Bay, away from the road closures and the crowds, so arriving on the Sunday before a Monday start is a taxi from the station rather than a walk through all of it. Most Cardiff placements are at the Heath, and the rest are spread between the Royal Infirmary, Velindre and the community sites, so the honest question is how far you want to travel at six in the morning. Our Cardiff property is a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment near Cardiff Bay with a dedicated workspace, which suits a locum who wants a proper desk as well as a bed, and we place staff in Newport as well when the rota is at the Grange or the Royal Gwent.
