Imperial Park, Vishay and the data centres

Imperial Park has KLA's manufacturing and R&D centre, opened in 2025. Microsoft's data centre on Celtic Way was nearing completion in May 2026, the company said. By road that's about 4 miles from our Pillgwenlly and city centre houses. Vishay's wafer fab, where a £250 million investment was announced in March 2025, is about 3 miles from the same houses. Vantage's campus is planned as three data centres over 46 acres, part of the South Wales AI Growth Zone. It was still being built in August 2026.

Newport docks and Uskmouth

Two of our houses are in Pillgwenlly, the ward that holds Newport Docks, about 1 mile by road from the Port of Newport at Alexandra Dock. ABP announced a new deep-water berth at Middle Quay in December 2025. At the former Uskmouth power station, about 5 miles from our Alway and Lliswerry houses, three battery storage schemes are approved. The developer said in October 2025 that the first two would be operating by early 2027.

Llanwern and Glan Llyn

Tata Steel's Llanwern works is about 6 miles by road from our Alway house and about 7 from Lliswerry. It was running at about half capacity in August 2026. Glan Llyn is going up on former steelworks land. More than 1,000 of a planned 4,000 homes were built by July 2026, and Miller Homes started on 222 in September. Indurent Park's 338,000 sq ft phase there was due to finish by the end of 2026.

Accommodation near the Royal Gwent Hospital and the Grange

The Royal Gwent Hospital is less than a mile by road from our city centre and Pillgwenlly houses, and about 1 mile from Lliswerry. Parking on its site is free but limited. The Grange University Hospital, the trauma unit for Gwent, is in Cwmbran, where we don't have a house. It's about 5 miles from our St Julians house and about 6 from the city centre house.

City centre and the railway

The £20 million leisure and wellbeing centre on Usk Way is due to complete at the end of December 2026. Five new stations between Cardiff and Severn Tunnel Junction were announced in February 2026. Work on all five is due to begin in 2026. Newport station is about 1 mile by road from our city centre house.

Sleeps is the listed maximum and counts shared beds. CapeHaus and Deja Two list 8 beds each, so if your crew wants a bed each, that's 8 there, not 13.

Vans in Newport: no clean air zone, the M4 and parking

Newport has no clean air zone, so your vans pay no daily zone charge here. No Welsh city is on the UK Government's list. Where a street has residents' parking, the council's permit covers a van only if it's under 1,524 kg unladen weight. Vans aren't promised at any house and are asked about at enquiry.

The city has six junctions on the M4, and the port has direct road access to junctions 24 and 28. Around the Brynglas Tunnels the motorway has a 50mph average-speed limit, enforced by cameras since November 2022. Newport station has direct trains to Cardiff Central and Bristol Temple Meads.

Yes. Cardiff city centre is about 14 miles by road from our Pillgwenlly and city centre houses, and about 16 from St Julians and Alway.

How far is the nearest house from Magor?

About 7 miles by road, from our Alway house to Magor village. AB InBev's brewery is there, and Magor and Undy is expected to be the first of the five new stations completed.

Is there contractor accommodation near ICC Wales and Celtic Manor?

OliveHaus in Alway is about 2 miles by road from ICC Wales and Celtic Manor, off M4 junction 24.

Does a crew staying in Newport pay Bristol's clean air zone charge?

Only on days it drives into central Bristol. A van under 3.5 tonnes is charged £9 a day and a heavy goods vehicle £100. Euro 6 diesel, Euro 4 or newer petrol and fully electric vehicles aren't charged. The Severn crossings have been toll-free since 2018.
